Description: A.C.T. Studio Theatre Opens the Fall Season with the hilarious “Death Defying Acts”

A.C.T. Studio Theatre in Stuart is pulling out the stops for its first fall production. What do you get when you combine the talents of playwrights Woody Allen, David Mamet, and Elaine May? Death Defying Acts, naturally: three interconnected one-act plays that will keep you in stitches. These brilliant playwrights bring deliciously rich characters and scenarios for an innovative evening of theater. Producers Dennis and Karen O'Donovan nabbed two top-notch directors and an exceptional cast for A.C.T.’s September show about communication--or the lack thereof!

This long-running Off Broadway comedy features the work of Messrs. Allen and Mamet and Ms. May, who together hold 28 Oscar nominations, 16 Golden Globe nominations, four Oscars and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In David Mamet's An Interview, a sleazy lawyer is forced to answer difficult questions and admit the truth about his life and career. The humorous one-act play delivers a surprise ending. In Hotline by Elaine May, a neurotic woman with enough urban angst to fill a neighborhood calls a suicide crisis hotline late one night. The counselor who gets the call is overwhelmed--it is his first night on the job. This amusing 40-minute piece ends Act 1. In Act 2, a well-to-do psychiatrist has just discovered that her best friend is having an affair with her husband in Woody Allen's wildly comical Central Park West. She has invited the friend over for a confrontation after getting thoroughly soused. Central Park West provides an hour of constant hilarity.

An Interview and Hotline are directed by the multi-talented writer and producer Gale Baker, who directed A.C.T.’s spring sensation Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Central Park West is the creative vision of director Richie Lester, whose recent South Florida productions include Brighton Beach Memoirs and Art of Murder. The comical characters are portrayed by Arlette Eulo, Kaidan Gall, Ellen Gillette, Jessica Lesko, Richie Lester, Jerry Mond, Carlos Rivera Navas, Dennis O'Donovan, Clelia Patrizio, Matt Phares and Joe Pierson.
