Doc Grober & The Mudcats "The Jazz Age"

Thursday, March 23, 2017 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: Lyric Theatre | 59 S.W. Flagler Avenue Stuart, FL 34994
Description: Doc and his famous Dixieland Jazz band are back with a show that explores the sounds of The Jazz Age and highlights the formative years after World War I. Always a favorite, Doc Grober keeps his fans coming back for more with his high-energy jazz renditions, and witty comments. Doc Grober and the Mudcats bring the sounds of the 1920s and 1930s, in the time of F. Scott Fitzgerald and flapper girls to The Lyric stage this season with The Jazz Age.

Before the Doc became a successful surgeon, he was a pianist in a Pennsylvania band called Ron Grober’s Quaker City Rhythm Kings. Grober and the Kings toured across the northeast from New York to Pennsylvania in venues of various sizes. Sadly, the Doc had to put his musical career on hold, as he earned a degree to become an orthopedic surgeon. A man of many talents, Doc Grober demonstrated his skills as a surgeon, becoming the Florida team physician for the New York and St. Lucie Mets.

Although he enjoyed great success as a physician, Doc Grober knew he couldn’t stay away from music for long. When the Pelican Yacht Club of Ft. Pierce asked the Doc to perform at an upcoming jazz event, Grober fell back in love with the piano. Doc Grober organized a group of talented local musicians to perform for the club, and Grober and his impromptu jazz band were celebrated by the media and members of the audience as a fun and exciting new group. The Doc and his Mudcats have been performing together ever since. Now, Doc Grober and the Mudcats return for another classic Lyric performance, this time exploring the sounds of the 1920s and 1930s, in the time of F. Scott Fitzgerald and flapper girls.
