Treasure Coast Community Singers: Chronicles of Blue and Gray
The sound of fife and drum conjures up images of battles waged in the history of this country. The "Chronicles of Blue and Gray" to be performed at the North Stuart Baptist Church on April 8th and 9th by the Treasure Coast Community Singers will do just that. The production, under the direction of Artistic Director, Dr. Doug Jewett will include an orchestra and soloists Megan Krinsky and Brian Cowan.
Composed by John Purifoy to mark the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, this composition incorporates a selection of folk songs, spirituals, poetry, historical speeches, and other elements of the Civil War era into a moving and memorable mélange of orchestral and choral music. In the words of Dr. Jewett, “The emotions of the conflict that divided our country during the Civil War are relived in The Chronicles of Blue and Gray. This musical gives a historic recalling of the battles, yet, personalizing the experience for both the performers and the listeners.”
Members of the Treasure Coast Community Singers were invited to perform this work in New York at Carnegie Hall in June 2014 and it is now a great honor for us to perform and share it with you.
The performances are Saturday, April 8 and Sunday April 9 at 3pm at the North Stuart Baptist Church, 1950 NW Federal Highway. Advance sale tickets are $15 and admission at the door is $20.
