A.C.T. Studio Theatre celebrates the Treasure Coast’s Gay Pride Month with Chad Beguelin’s comedy “Harbor”
Celebrating family diversity in the new millennium, A.C.T. Studio Theatre presents Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin’s comedy “Harbor.” Contemplation over prospective parenthood inspired Mr. Beguelin to create this 2013 Off-Broadway play about two attractive, newly-married preppy men living in the affluent Long Island Hamptons. When extended family drops in on the couple's beautiful Sag Harbor home, the bonds between kith and kin are tested in this incisive, touching comedy about the shifting nature of family.
Mr. Beguelin writes, “ . . . While the characters and situations in the play are fictional, the issues that sparked the play are very real to me. I knew I wanted the play to be as honest and raw as possible. Oh, and funny. That, too.” Director Stuart Mohr adds, "One of the things that attracted me to this play is the shifting definition of ‘family’. The gay community has made such strides in the last decade, but what does it mean to be a family? . . . The play is timely, funny and touching, and shows that--no matter how different we may appear on the outside--we are all the same inside."
Starring Joe Pierson, Tyler Sloan, Megan Pollak and Stevie Fondacaro, “Harbor” will be presented at A.C.T. Studio Theatre on April 14, 15, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m.; Sunday performances are at 3 p.m. A.C.T. Studio is located in the Cedar Pointe Plaza, 2399 SE Ocean Blvd., Stuart. Reserved seating is $25.
