A.C.T. Studio Theatre presents Tony Award Nominee “’night, Mother” by Marsha Norman
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Nominee for Best Play, Marsha Norman’s enthralling play has been hailed as an essential theater experience. The award-winning script exposes a difficult moral dilemma as it explores the final hours in the life of a young woman. It begins on a typical night in Jessie and Mama’s ordinary, mundane lives. The subsequent dialogue between them slowly reveals Jessie’s reasons for her decision and how thoroughly she has planned her action. It moffers a reminder that we sometimes fail to have conversations about difficult topics until it is too late—but we can still feel empathy for all involved.
Steven McKnight of DC Theatre Scene wrote that 31 years after first seeing ‘night, Mother, “ . . . it remains an indelible theatre experience . . . It is hard to explain the greatness of this work without disclosing details best enjoyed in [an] intimate . . . theatre.” Peter Brown of the London Theatre Co. wrote “ . . . It's hard not to laugh during this play because there's a rich vein of humor running right the way through it . . . For me, it is a great play . . .”
Under the inspired direction of Heidi Condon at A.C.T., this compelling, award-winning play stars Jessica Lesko and Arlette Eulo. Ms. Condon said, “’night, Mother is never far from touching any family. These exceptional actors’ interpretation of mundane conversation is breathtaking . . . You will be up close and personal with the emotional impact this play gives to all who see it. You do not want to miss it.”
