Lecture: The Mercury 13 with Al Hallenquist
Al Hallonquist is a published Aerospace Historian, and the author and maintainer of www.mercury13.com. As such he is the first contact for the surviving girls and generally “guards their gate”. Al will speak about the little-known story of the women known as “The Mercury 13” who went through a secret testing program in the 1960s to prove that women could be astronauts, only to have the program shut down by Congress. Be sure to see the fascinating exhibit panels that help tell the story, on display in the Changing Exhibitions Gallery August 1st – September 29th in conjunction with Summer of ’69.
