ARTS LEADERSHIP | Karen L. Barnes
From birth, Karen has been surrounded by the arts. She’s been formally education as a vocalist, performing nationally and internationally at renowned opera halls, been an arts educator, an arts administrator and advocate for the arts. More recently over the past 15 years here on the Treasure Coast, she has served as Executive Director of The Atlantic Classical Orchestra, Board Member of The Arts Council Inc, 2005-2010 C0- Founder of The Chamber Choral of Palm City; C0-Founder of The Masterworks Chorale of The Treasure Coast and have been a chorister/supporter of all the above and The St. Lucie Chorale, soprano soloist Palm City Presbyterian Church 2006 – 2014; presently member of Chamber Singers. During her tenure as a member of the Arts Council Board, she made it her mission to bring ALL the ARTS – performing and FINE-together to solidify our community’s commitment to the arts which became the 30th Anniversary “DREAMS” celebration at the Lyric Theatre. And its legacy is the continued involvement of many wonderful collaborators/performing artists over these past 10 years. With her contribution of a piano to the Arts Council, the Sunset Concert Series was born and flourishes, as do a number of other events that utilize the gallery as “a performing arts venue”. She says, “The arts have blessed my life so I feel blessed to give back to the next up-coming generation of musicians and artists by being a yearly scholarship donor to both mARTIEs and the Marvin S. Cone High School Juried Art Show award winners as well as being a yearly contributor to The Arts Council and other local organizations.” Let’s join together in thank Karen for all her work and awarding her the Arts Leadership Award.
