STRAVINSKY Pulcinella: Suite
BEETHOVEN Violin Concerto
David Amado, conductor
Elena Urioste, violin

We’ll continue our celebration of Beethoven with his Violin Concerto. A monument of the genre, it rewrote the rules for what a violin concerto could be. Expansive, symphonic in scope, virtuosic, and demanding, it continues to be the Everest of concertos two centuries after it was written. Elena Urioste will bring her trademark blend of virtuosity and probing musical insight illuminating this masterpiece. The first half begins with a charming work of Jennifer Higdon filled with spirit, good humor, and rhythmic vitality, and Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, a suite based on the music of baroque composer Pergolesi filtered through the lens of early 20th Century musical values.
