Chalk Walk Competition

Oil, watercolor, glass, wood – and chalk?!   In 2024, ArtsFest proudly hosted its first ever, Chalk Walk, competition of student artists during the weekend.. The competition at ArtsFest was preceded by a Chalk Art Artist in Residence Program which was possible due to grant funds received from the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts & Culture. This grant allowed us to place Danuta Rothschild in each of our five middle schools for up to a 20 hour residency in each location. During that time the artist worked with the students to learn about working with chalk pastels as a medium and also about scaling their work up to mural for the competition. The theme of “A Landscape of Hope” gave students a chance to express the dreams they have for the future of our community.
