Intrigued by Barbra Streisand’s 2010 coffee-table book “My Passion for Design,” Mr. Tolins’ witty one-man comedy shares the delightful appeal of slipping into one’s own make-believe universe. The narrator and main character Alex, a struggling actor in L.A., takes an imaginary job as private shopkeeper of the faux Main Street shops in the basement of Ms. Streisand’s Malibu home. The main perk of the fanciful job caring for the mega celebrity’s world-class collection of dolls, costumes, toys and furnishings: its only patron is the formidable Ms. Streisand.
