About the Artist
Lisa grew up in the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area of the panhandle. Being the daughter of an artist she had an early exposure to art and the elements of design. However, Lisa chose the financially secure business path over the creative route and obtained her marketing degree from FSU and went to work. After several life tragedies she traded in the corporate track for the creative life of an artist. And she's been living that creative life in Stuart for over 30 years.
In her own words...
"My inspiration usually starts from my "idea/inspiration basket" where I stash anything that interests me; shells, unusual sticks, photos, color combinations etc. Usually the unifying elements that catches my eye involves deep texture, whimsy, and saturated color. Once an idea forms, I figure out what I want to express .I start with lots of lush heavy body acrylics and gel mediums, and then start putting down my layers. Sometimes I start with a rough sketch and sometimes it will be an intuitive painting. I start with transparent layers working my way up off the canvas surface to more dimensional textures using thick paint and the dried acrylic paint skins I recycle from my pallet. Once the process begins, along with some curated music, I loose myself in the lushness and the physicality of the painting process itself. For me it's as much about that process as it is about the subject matter. While I adhere to the principles of design, within the process there is lots of room for experimentation, mistakes, and imagination. It all circles back to my purpose... which is to make art that will surprise and delight."
