Excellence in Arts Education

Tami Conrad has been an art teacher for 35 years in a high school setting. She earned her Masters Degree in Education from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. Her love for art started in middle school when she attended an arts camp with high school art teacher Albert Ondish. Each day campers would travel to small attractions in town to draw. We would later returned to the studio to critique our work. It was a great way to spend a summer. Her favorite thing about teaching art is the experimentation and opportunities to try new techniques, mediums, and lessons. She has developed numerous lesson plans and curriculums for kindergarten through 12th grade. She established the IB Art Program at South Fork High School under the guidance of IB Photography teacher Tom Wetzl. Recently, she was able to requisition a kiln to offer a ceramics program to students. Observing her students’ create and interact has been a passion. I think the most important thing in teaching is the relationships you create with your students to fosters growth. Now retired, Tami will be working on her painting and ceramics on a personal level, traveling, teaching yoga and spending time with family.
