Andrea Canham
Ms. Canham’s 50-year art career has been long and varied. She spent twenty years traveling and selling her monotypes on a prestigious show circuit from the 80’s to the 2000’s. She taught Art at a highly rated Choice School in Palm Beach County and has served on art boards and panels at a state level (New York State). She is equally adept at papermaking, printmaking and painting. Expect to find a wide variety of work at her studio-gallery –from ceramic tiles to sweetly irreverent animal puppets and paper cutouts, to romantic monotype interiors. What holds them all together is her love of luminous color.
Artist statement
Art is my Passion. It is a love affair that has broadened and deepened my fifty-year art career. Since graduating with a BFA from Syracuse University, I have spent my life promoting, teaching, creating, and showing and selling art. My college tenure culminated with a one-man show featuring a series of etchings and drawings I made of the construction of the Carrier Dome in Syracuse-- trucks, scaffolding and mysterious tunnels all in black and white. Next a love of Bonnard and Matisse inspired years of colorful monotype interiors successfully sold at fairs and festivals throughout the United States. Teaching and an online course in storybook picture creation influenced my current explorations of animal character puppets and tiles. A love and concern for the natural world and an engagement with animals’ anthropomorphic qualities continues to thrill and delight.
