Anne Johann

My work focuses on environmental awareness. Land and seascape paintings are my instrument to inspire others to see the beauty of the natural world, and to communicate the importance of being good stewards of the Earth. If figures appear, they are secondary, expressing our spiritual union with nature. I work primarily in oil and watercolor.

Awards and honors for Johann’s paintings include The Betty Kaytes Floral Award (Ridgewood Art Institute, Ridgewood, NJ); Top 100 paintings Plein Air Salon January 2025; The Select Artist Award (New Haven Paint & Clay Club at The Lyme Art Association Gallery, Old Lyme, CT); The Herbert and Rosetta Bohnhert Memorial Award (Hudson Valley Art Association at The Lyme Art Association Gallery, Old Lyme, CT); The Vasari Oil Colors Award (Art of the Northeast USA, Silvermine Guild Gallery, New Canaan, CT); The David T. Langrock Prize for Landscape (New Haven Paint & Clay Club, New Haven, CT); Residency and Artist Grant, Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT; and two ArtsWestchester Municipal Challenge mural grants (Town of Cortlandt Manor, and Town of Ossining). Her work has been seen in group shows including Nor’Easter at the New Britain Museum of American Art, New Britain, CT; the Attleboro Arts Museum, Attleboro, MA; Bristol Art Museum, Bristol, RI, Healing Nature at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, MA; The National Arts Club, NYC; and The Salmagundi Club, NYC.
