Jane Baldridge

In response to sea levels rise, powerful storms that impact our coasts, and as a lack of moral compass erodes society, I continue to create a series of artworks both on canvas and as sculptures. The paintings(Sea Stories) attempt to bring the viewer closer to the oceans, bays and rivers in hopes of creating a stronger relationship and developing connection with the ocean. The sculptures(Sea Level Chronicles) attract the viewer while engaging them in environmental issues

Sea Stories are paintings about my life on the water. Perfect days spent scudding along on the wavelets that reflect diamonds or bashing headlong into waves, trying to survive the storm. I am grateful to share my unusual history of waterborne adventures visually.

I have worked, competed, played, and lived on the water. Sailing on it, or submerged in its lusty turquoise embrace.

First moved by the beautiful photographs by Jacques Cousteau, watercolors by Willard Bond, and then inspired by conservation artists Mary Edna Fraser and Diane Burko, I want to share my sea stories and experiences with the audience in hopes of heightening their awareness of its importance, beauty, and fragility. I want to be as brave with my painting as Helen Frankenthaler and James J. DeMartis.

Join me on my journey, reflect in my recap; most importantly, learn to breathe deep the salt air.
