Transitioning from a 40-year engineering and technology career to an unstructured environment filled with free-flowing paints, mixed media, discarded objects and an endless supply of mediums has been quite a welcomed challenge. Born and raised in the greater Miami area, educated at Mars Hill College and the University of Florida, it has always been a dream to one day utilize the knowledge obtained from a B.F.A. degree in Fine Arts (1981).
Upon graduation, 6 months were spent touring Europe with Cortona, Italy being the home base. Under the umbrella of the University of Georgia’s Study Abroad Program (UGA), art history was the primary curriculum. However, the chosen medium explored was that of printmaking in a fully equipped intaglio and relief studio (under the direction of Kenneth Kerslake, Artist/U.F. Professor). The world of creating art was placed on hold; marriage, raising a family, and working in a fulfilling technical career took precedence.
Newly retired, I am learning to tame the left side of my brain to ensure it no longer impedes and only enhances what the right has to offer. Travel and day-to-day experiences continue to provide a forum enabling the exploration of an endless inventory of mediums and tools.
