My work explores the hidden relationships between the ordered structures of the built world and the living order found throughout creation. Having spent most of my life as an architect, I became increasingly aware that cities, roads, roots, rivers, veins, and neural pathways share a common visual grammar. My paintings are an attempt to discover and reveal that underlying language.
Rather than illustrating recognizable places or objects, I build layered systems of shape, transparency, rhythm, and color that invite prolonged looking. I am interested in paintings that reveal themselves slowly, allowing the viewer to experience structure, memory, and emotion without prescribing a single interpretation.
Each painting begins with an emotional truth rather than a predetermined image. Love, nurturing, sojourning, sorrow, joy, mortality, and the hope of eternity are the forces that guide the work. My goal is not to explain these experiences, but to create a visual language capable of carrying them. For me, painting is an act of discovery. The process is one of uncovering rather than inventing, removing what is unnecessary until the work possesses its own quiet integrity. My paintings are developed through multiple layers of latex paint, acrylic paint, markers, graphite, and transparent washes on paper or panel. I construct the surface through repeated cycles of addition, subtraction, and revision, allowing earlier decisions to remain visible beneath subsequent layers. Curvilinear forms, architectural geometry, and translucent passages create a network of relationships that gradually emerges as the painting evolves. The finished work balances deliberate structure with intuitive response, preserving the history of its making within the final image.
