Celebrating Historic Preservation Month

Chris Kling painting of Stuart High School

To celebrate Historic Preservation Month, we hosted an "Open House" at the historic Stuart High School on Saturday, May 3. We had a glimpse into what the future will hold in the auditorium with performances by the Stuart Middle School Ensemble Band, directed by Emily Roberts, and the South Fork High School Choral Program, directed by Reva Rogers.

Throughout the afternoon visitors viewed the exhibit, "Engaging the Past, Enriching the Future," curated by Alicia Weber featuring artwork from Joy Postle (loaned by alumni Dale Hudson). Profiles of notable alumni included Curt Whiticar, James Hutchinson, Laura Kay Whiticar Darvill, and Gloria Fike, with the first three also having art work displayed. Stuart Middle School Art Teacher, Sheryl Odza, coordinated a showing of Stuart Middle School Art Students. Inspired by Joy Postle's art, there was a chance to try your hand at drawing a bird following instructions in her book.

Many thanks to Plein Air Artists Michaelann Bellerjeau & Chris Kling who painted the view from East Ocean Boulevard looking into the front doors.
