Women Supporting the Arts works to build a community of local philanthropists who inspire, educate, and encourage a strong arts and cultural environment in Martin County.
-
To provide grants for arts enhancement programs, projects, scholarships, and internships to adults and children of all cultural and economic backgrounds in Martin County.
-
To educate women about the arts and cultural needs of the community and provide learning opportunities for philanthropy.
-
To develop friendships, support and networking opportunities by working for a common goal.
Women Supporting the Arts was born in 2004, when there were no local funding sources to support the county’s artists and cultural projects. MartinArts embraced the vision of a women's giving circle and has continued to provide support through its 501(c)3 umbrella and administrative services. In a community where the annual economic impact of the arts is more than 31 million, our grants fill an important gap.
WSA makes modest grants to individual artists; students; local arts organizations, civic groups, and nonprofits; and occasional government agency programs. Grant amounts average about $1,400, and the range (to date) goes from a low of $150 to a high of $9,000. All decisions about grants and allocations are made by group consensus.
