Susan 'Shoshana' Cooper

Susan 'Shoshana' Cooper

I started to paint in my 50's. Mostly self taught in the beginning and simply wanting to express something within I could not find a way of doing with words. I am a realistic painter but if I do not connect deeply with the subject I cannot actually paint it. Every single one of my paintings is trying to say something I cannot get at with speech. It is only afterwards do I usually understand what I was trying to do. I have come to love the process and it has balanced my life. I cared for my husband as he progressed and died with Lewy body Dementia and the paintings all reflect both the suffering and the majesty that the journey took us on. Now I live my widowed life and paint to express all that it entails. Without painting I don't think my life would have the vitality it brings to me.
